Texas State Fair

So, we've lived in Texas now for two years, and we've never gone to the big Texas State Fair. We have heard that it is expensive (who would think it was cheap), but worth the trip. We decided to go the bargain route... we raided the pantry and went on the food pantry day. Donate 3 cans of food (per person) for $1 admission. Since I had purchased a bunch of canned food that wasn't getting eaten (with my coupons, they were almost free), we got a deal!!! Too bad it rained.... Oh well, at least we can say we went....

Here's Gunnar fresh & dry... that lasted about 10 minutes.

First stop... the famous chicken fried bacon. If you don't know the state fair, every year it's all about what new fried foods they can serve up. They've got everything from deep fried snickers, to deep fried cheesecake. Deep fried avocado. Here's Gunnar eating his chicken fried bacon. He loved it! And yes, it's dipped in ranch dressing...

And then it started raining... here he is getting wet..

We waited a few minutes... and then a few more... and then we realized it wasn't going to quit. We were sitting under a pavilion, staring at a "Rain Ponchos for Sale" sign. We bought them....

Here's Gunnar in his....

And Dad in his....

And me in mine....

The poncho was a little big on Gunnar, so he had to carry it like a dress...

And then .. of course.. we left. Since it was raining so much, the only pictures I took were of us in ponchos... otherwise I'd have ruined my camera... Oh well, at least we can say we had the chicken fried bacon.
